Year: 2021

Concept Ideation

For the app, choosing a specific planet to base the app around when it came to aesthetics, was the route to go. Instead of Earth, Neptune was chosen. Neptune is often forgotten behind, this update to the app is to show love for the forlorn planet.

Directions to explore:

1. Dreamy, heavy blue colors, inspiration from old-school NASA

2. Slight tweaks to the original app

3. White, with black accents, mechanical

The Type

To truly focus on the educational aspects of the app, we want people to go through their own space journey, as if they took off from Houston themselves. To emphasize this, the app will be utilizing a futuristic typeface that is still simple. After some exploring, Eurostile was chosen for its legibility and subtle modern qualities.

The Colors

The color palette was kept simple, with black, red, and white as the primary colors, based on the old NASA logo. We also added subtle blue elements to pay homage to the old logo’s blue circle.

The Result

We believe that the new design captures the essence of space exploration and reflects NASA’s futuristic vision. It’s a modern, visually appealing experience that pays tribute to NASA’s rich history. Users will undoubtedly enjoy the immersive experience it provides.
