Coastal Empire Habitat For Humanity

A collaboration between Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity and SCADserve, with the goal of renovating the Restore location in Savannah. Restore is a retail store that sells donated home goods and building materials, with the proceeds going to support Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building affordable housing for low-income families.

Year: 2023

The Jumping Point

To kick things off, as a collective, we mind mapped all our research of the company and ideas we could take. Then we separated into smaller groups based off of concepts in which we were tasked dive into further.

The Type

As a group, along with the client, decided to keep the type and overall style the same as the branding standards for Habitat For Humanity. This kept the deliverables consistent and recognizable to consumers.

The Final Tags

As part of the renovation project, the team aimed to make the store’s tags more sustainable and user-friendly for both employees and customers. In order to achieve this, they implemented a fill-out system for the tags. This approach not only reduces waste by eliminating the need for pre-printed tags but also makes it easier for employees to update and modify the tags as needed.

The Final Posters

In addition to designing tags, posters were made to promote the mission of Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity and recruit volunteers. The posters feature actual photos from builds in the Savannah area, providing a tangible representation of the organization’s impact on the community. By using real-life examples, the posters not only highlight the important work being done by Coastal Empire but also inspire others to get involved and make a difference.

The Posters

The client requested posters that would be utilized on the outside of the building, to spread awareness of Habitat's visions and goals. They wanted to reach out to the consumers, and encourage people to give back to the community along side Habitat For Humanity.

Revisions

We had the client add different color stickers over deliverables they would like to see for the final. In the Authentic group, they chose the posters, store hours decal, and signage. For the final deliverables, all of the smaller groups joined together and split once again, by skill, to bring this project for the home run.

The Final Name tag

As a way to keep costs down with the constant turnover rate of volunteers, we added recycled paper names tags. Not only are they environmentally friendly, they also give volunteers and employees the chance to show their personality, wether it is through their handwriting or additional doodles.

Concept 2 — Authentic

We strived to stay true to Habitat for Humanity’s mission to connect with the community while staying organic in materials and values. To stay on brand while giving the coastal branch its own identity, we decided to not deviate too far from Habitat’s original colors. For the interior, we stuck to the basics, keeping the authentic essence. The floors will be concrete with elements of wood shown in structures and signage. The walls will be white, so the products will pop and give life to the store. Signage also correlated with our natural style while maintaining corporate brand guides. Our graphics were kept simple with minimal color, so habitat’s message is not overshadowed. The mural is also an homage to habitat’s mission to inspire hope and uplift marginalized people. It was kept a little more simple to match our style, but the colors catch viewers eyes while passing by.
