Year: 2023
Our Objective
We strived to design a new logo for Pye-Barker which communicated the company’s vision, mission and values through a cohesive modern personality. As well as encapsulating the extended vision of Life Safety and connects with a wider audience globally comprised of fresh talent, investment communities and local family-owned businesses.
About Pye-Barker
Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is a full-service B2B company providing inspection, service and installation of fire, life safety & security systems by protecting businesses & families since 1946. They are rapidly growing as a company, with a hyper-responsive strategy, and a trendsetting mindset. Their mission is to be the best in the world, today and everyday.
Considerations to take:
We congregated together with our client to plan out the future of Pye-Barker, how Pye-Barker exist in the modern space, and how will it live on in the upcoming years. We have come to the conclusion that the new logo should:
1. Should speak to a B2B market
2. Avoid unified symbols and motifs
3. Support the high growth strategy
4. Retain the equity of current colors
The Old Logo

The Type
Tasked with focusing on the typography, I dived straight into the fontbook. To perfectly portray the company's values and identity, a typeface with a specific feel was needed. It needed to feel blue collar, B2B, while bringing in modern elements.

After Revisions
The client and head designer were partial to using these fonts, as they were well reflections of Pye-Barker's bold personality. The next step was to add type parings and play with the hierarchy.

The Draft
After choosing Loos Normal Bold as the main type, and Albiona Light as the secondary, we added the mark from the team tasked with creating it. The client found the fire graphic inside the "PB" to be intriguing, yet the inside reminded them of a fish hook. For the next draft, we aimed to rid of this, and make the fire more legible.

The Final Logo
To make sure the logo was readable, we changed up the fire graphic to be recognizable, as well as adding another color to have it stand out. We italicized the type to add movement, demonstrating Pye-Barker's appetite for growth and speedy services. We kept the tagline in the serif font Albiona, to tie back in the company's humble roots.
